Description
The magnificent W. Muther House, designed in 1913 by William E. Drummond who was Frank Lloyd Wright's chief engineer. Prairie style architecture at its finest with what was at the time an innovative open living concept with a free-standing Roman brick fireplace separating the living and dining areas. The home is situated on one of River Forest's quietest and most charming streets, and there is a breathtaking view from every window. The back yard borders the Forest Preserves and provides privacy, peace and tranquility while being just two blocks from the Metra Station with easy access to downtown Chicago. The new kitchen with granite counters and SubZero refrigerator has two picture windows to take in the view of the English style gardens which include 1600 daffodils, native plants such as Virginia Bluebells, Celadon Poppies, Trout Lillies, Lilacs, and an herb garden. The bright first floor family room opens to a back yard pergola and patio. There is an office on the first floor with a half bath, and an enclosed porch on the second floor with a beautiful view of the woods. The two back bedrooms and bath could easily be combined into a master bedroom suite. The third floor is finished, and there is a recently finished basement rec room with French doors to provide plenty of sunlight. New boiler, central air, hot water heater and exterior stucco. A full set of Drummond's architectural plans will be conveyed with the home.
